Dog Health Problems Symptoms:

Dogs are extremely popular with pet owners and because of the close bond that they share with their care givers; dog health is a widely studied and researched area in veterinary medicine.

There are a wide variety of diseases that dogs could suffer from. Since a lot of dogs are bred selectively, there may be a high incidence of genetic disorders. There are a lot of health issues that are common between humans and dogs. There are some diseases which are completely unique to dogs as well. Since there are many different kinds of health problems in dogs, they are divided into several categories. Each category and disease has its own particular symptoms. However, a healthy dog behaves very differently from a dog that is ill.

If you pay close attention to your dog, you will be able to notice a change in your dog’s behavior and general demeanor. When you see your dog on a daily basis, it becomes easier for you to notice these minor differences. In fact, you will easily be able to tell when your dog isn’t as interested in play activity or is unusually tired or lethargic.

Any time your pet deviates from its standard normal behavior, observe the dog closely and check for symptoms of illness. Since household dogs are usually vaccinated for some of the more common illnesses, you do not have to fear on that account. Almost all dogs are vaccinated against parvovirus, parainfluenza, corona, rabies, distemper, and adenovirus, among others. A healthy dog has a clear and glossy coat, bright eyes, clear skin, a clean nose from which there is no discharge, good levels of energy, healthy appetite, free and easy movement, frisky and positive personality, and the correct weight as per the standards of the breed.

The same, however, cannot be said for a dog that is not feeling well. There are several changes that occur in the dog – physical, emotional and behavioral. If you are able to recognize the symptoms, talk to a vet and discuss the problem at length. Here’s what you should look out for in your dog.

  1. Change in appetite. This will be followed by a noticeable change in the consumption of food and water.
  2. There will be a constant lack of energy. The dog will appear fatigued and uninterested in any physical activity.
  3. There may be a sudden onset of pain because of which the dog may even often yelp.
  4. There could be a negative change in behavior and personality.
  5. The coat becomes dull. There could be visible signs of irritation on the skin. In severe cases, there may even be loss of hair.
