Homecooked Cat Food Recipe

Submitted by Michael Adams on April 21, 2010

Many cat owners are now exploring the options of putting their pets primarily on homemade food, mainly due to the rise of diet-related or digestive problems and other diseases. There are many advantages of preparing cat’s meals at home. Some of the advantages are:
  • Choosing ingredients that are known and are of a high quality
  • Lack of preservatives and synthetic additives
  • Avoiding fillers, by-products, grains and vegetables
  • Getting high-quality food at lower costs
Cooked or raw homemade food?

In a natural state, the cat’s food should be totally raw and can also include bones of some form of meat. However, some cats do not like raw food and prefer cooked meat. In case you do cook the meat before feeding your cat, please ensure that you remove the bones.

Equipment required to make homemade cat food

In order to prepare consistently well-balanced food for your cat at home, you will need:
  • A scale for measuring the ingredients
  • A food processor to cut the cooked meat, into fine pieces
  • A grinder, for raw meat and bones
  • Storage containers, that keep the food fresh
Because the ingredients you use will have no preservatives, you will not be able to store the homemade food for a long time. Also, the meat will have to be refrigerated properly and all the equipment will have to be cleaned thoroughly.
