Biggest House Cat Breeds

In addition to large wild and hybrid cats, there are an increasing number of big cat breeds on the domestic front. Unlike their typical smaller breed counterparts, the large cat breeds are generally are good natured, amicable and highly devoted to their human family.

One of the biggest house cat breeds is the Maine Coon.


This breed of cats state is one of the largest domestic long hair cat breeds. Physically they are long haired cats with a thick and lustrous coat that is water resistant. They are generally broad chested and have a long and sort of rectangular body.


A male Maine coon usually weighs around 13 to 20 pounds whereas the females are relatively smaller ranging between 7-11 pounds. This breed of house cats is known for its gentle disposition and its love for people, making it almost like having a dog for a pet.

Savannahs are the next breed of large cats that on account of their sheer size should be given ample space to run around with opportunities to climb .They usually weigh in at around 25 pounds. This breed of cats does not however require any special diet and is relatively easy to maintain. They get strongly attached to their human families and get along well with other pets and children. And finally the latest newcomer to the list of large cat breeds is the Siberian cat, which like the Savannah is known for its fun and playful disposition. They get along wonderfully well with children, adults and other pets. They are healthy, virtually health problem free, strong, muscular, and large boned. Unlike other long haired breeds, Siberians do not shed as often and as much They usually  shed a minimal amount twice a year when going from winter to summer coat and vice versa.

The ragamuffin is another breed of cats that ranks high in the size department. This breed is physically large with a thick fur which comes in a range of colors and patterns. The next breed of large domestic cats is the Rag doll. The male Rag doll can typically weigh between 15 to 20 pounds and females weigh around 8 to 10 pounds. On account of its docile, gentle nature Rag dolls are extremely patient with wonderful temperaments and are usually easy to handle and have around the house. Additionally other breeds of large domestic cat breeds would be the Ocicat, Pixie Bobs, Turkish Van etc.
