How to Keep Dog Healthy?

(May 14, 2010)

At times when one buys commercial dog food that is available packaged and ready in the store, this may not always be the healthy option for your dog. When one is trying to keep dog healthy one of the key steps is to switch to giving homemade dog food. When feeding your dog or preparing any of its meals at home one should ensure that the meal largely consists of 25 to 30 percent of green and fibrous vegetables, about 35 to 40 percent of actual meat and of about 30 percent of foods containing starch. If one sticks to following a formula of food that is similar then one would be ensuring that one’s pet is eating a well balanced meal. A lot of dog experts do believe that commercial food can actually turn out to be unhealthy and not nutritious for one’s dog. Hence when checking on how to care for dog one should ensure that they either reduce the quantity of food that is commercially bought or stick solely to organic or homemade food. It is been ascertained that very frequently the meat that is used in the packaged food may not even be eaten by humans and can be stale and even rancid and poisonous.

One can instead try to ensure dog health care by giving one’s dog food like some ground turkey that has been mixed up with carrot and rice. One can even try some brown rice mixed along with ground beef and some carrots added to it. One should always try to keep rotating the foods one’s dog is eating thus ensuring that dog is being fed all kinds of different foods and is then getting a balanced diet. When trying to meet the dog’s starch requirements one can try giving the dog some pasta or some oatmeal. One can even give the dog some potatoes or rice. Never give the dog food that has been lying in the refrigerator for more than 3 days. Ration the food quantity that you are feeding the dog. Always remember to ensure that there is enough water for the dog to drink. This helps in keeping the dogs well hydrated and also helps in cooling them down. Keep a special chewing toy for the dog to bite and chew on as this helps in cleaning their teeth. Let your dog get plenty of exercise and let them get plenty of frolicking time in the outdoors.
