Raw Cat Food Ingredients

Before planning a raw diet for cat, it is important to determine your cat’s specific dietary needs. A safe and healthy raw diet for your pet can be planned with the help of a few simple tips. Firstly, consult your veterinarian about your cat’s specific nutritional requirements and the feasibility of switching to a raw food diet.

A well balanced raw cat diet should ensure that your cat’s basic nutritional requirements are being met. While planning raw food for cats you should also take into account your pet’s age, his/her allergies and disorders and tastes. If your cat is old for instance, his/her chewing and digestive capacity may have diminished considerably.

If your cat suffers from any allergies or disorders, his/her diet may have to be modified accordingly. Moreover, cats are also fond of snacking through the day and may like to eat small portions of dry cat food in addition to wet cat food. While planning raw diets for cats you should also take certain precautions. Do not include foods like packaged supermarket ground beef in your cat’s raw diet. Read the labels of packaged, frozen raw foods carefully to ensure that they are fresh and safe. Ensure that you buy only free range poultry and meat and only from a trusted source. It is natural to worry about your cat’s intestinal health if he/she is now on a raw cat diet. To help maintain his/her intestinal health, you can add priobiotics to your cat’s raw diet. Further, to help protect your cat from possible infections, ensure that you follow hygienic processes of handling raw food for cats. This includes clean methods of preparation and quick disposal of uneaten food. There are several supplements available in the market for a raw cat diet. In addition, you can prepare a raw food mix for your cat at home with the help of some simple ingredients.

A wholesome raw cat diet includes some vegetables (except onion) since they help add to flavor and possess important antioxidant properties. Mix together raw organ meat and muscle, grated vegetables (above-ground), raw nuts and seeds, ground bones, fatty acid and vitamin C to make a nutritious raw food mix for your cat. Most common ingredients in a raw diet for cats include raw fresh vegetables like squash, broccoli, potatoes and carrots. A raw cat diet can also include raw fruits like cranberries, apples and bananas and grains like oats, barley and brown rice.
