Cat constipation symptoms

Signs of Cat Constipation:

Constipation may be described as defecation which is both uncomfortable and sporadic.

Just like humans, cats too have to deal with colon issues like constipation. When it comes to constipation in cats, symptoms are slightly similar to the symptoms of constipation in humans. Symptoms of constipation in cats range from feces which are both hard and without moistness to the general one of not visiting the bathroom or not visiting it often enough.

Other signs of constipated cat would be things like straining or your cat might even cry when going to the litter box. Your cat may be trying to get out of the litter box and could be hunched in a very irregular manner. When your cat gets constipated, what is most likely to happen as a consequence is that he or she becomes sluggish and could seem quite depressed.

Signs of cat constipation could also include disinterest in food or not eating well. Furthermore, you should note that if this is allowed to continue, your cat could start throwing up and could experience weight loss. One has to remember that there could be myriad reasons why your cat is experiencing constipation and there are many ways in which vets and pet owners choose to address this problem. Reasons for the same could include faulty cat diet, certain problems with your cat’s large intestine and megacolon. The latter refers to the malfunctioning of an enlarged colon but the reasons for the same are not really known.

Bear in mind that the sooner your cat gets treated for this constipation problem, the better the chances of the treatment actually taking effect. Treatment would depend on what is causing the constipation and may include natural laxatives and higher fiber in the cat’s daily meals. For this purpose psyllium is often included in the cat’s food. It is in your cat’s best interest to determine the underlying problem which eventually leads to the constipation or this could keep recurring. It is also helpful to get the root of your cat’s problem so as to check for any underlying disease which might be causing this. If the cat constipation problem continues, it would be advisable to take your beloved pet and visit the veterinarian for further treatment options. Remember that he or she could experience a lot of weight loss and discomfort and vomiting if the constipation issue is not resolved soon.
