Buldogue Campeiro - Information on the Dog Breed, Breeders, Puppies, Nature and Temperament

The Buldogue Campeiro, also known as the Brazilian Bulldog, can be described as a breed that is rustic and very hardworking.

Literally translated their name means “rural bulldog”. Buldogue campeiro dogs are descendants of the ancient English Bulldogs that were brought to Brazil by European immigrants around 5 centuries ago. Until a short while ago, the buldogue campeiro was used only on farms and abattoirs.

To keep this dog breed from becoming extinct, a detailed buldogue campeiro rescue breeding program was also followed by professional breeders.

Nature and Temperament of Buldogue Campeiro Dogs

Buldogue campeiro dogs have a strong physical constitution, which is an indication of their strength and agility. Their height can range from 18 to 23 inches and they could weigh anywhere between 77 pounds and 100 pounds. They have a broad and large head along with powerful jaws that protrude.

As in the case of all bulldogs, their muzzle is strong and wide; however, it is not as short as the English bulldog is. Their ears are small to medium in size and have been set wide and high. The coat of the buldogue campeiro dogs is short and smooth and does not require much grooming. Their coat may be available in various colors.

These dogs make excellent watchdogs as they are courageous, calm, alert, loyal, yet do not bark excessively. Buldogue campeiro dogs are known for their moderate temperament, making them an excellent choice for pets. However, these dogs are ideally suited to farm life, as they excel in herding cattle or sheep in the field. Moreover, they have a lot of energy and stamina and require a lot of physical activity on a daily basis, to thrive happily. They do have an obstinate streak, which is why buldogue campeiro dog training should begin as early as possible. These dogs are much easier to get along with, when they are well-domesticated.

Buldogue Campeiro Puppies and Breeders

The cost of buldogue campeiro puppies varies, depending upon their age and their overall health. There are some pet owners who have been known to pay as much as US$ 1000 for a single puppy. You may be able to find these puppies on sale at a pet store. However, potential dog owners are advised to get their pets directly from well-known, professional buldogue campeiro breeders.

There is a lot of information easily available on this breed, through various resources. However, in order to get the most accurate buldogue campeiro info, it may be best for you to consult a professional breeder or preferably a vet.
