The coat of this breed of dogs comes in various colors such as white and red ticked, white and blue ticked and even in some cases English Coonhound puppies are found to be tri-colored and with some amount of ticking as well. The English Coonhound is known for its unique bark which  tends to sound similar to the bawl of a hound.

The tail of the English Coonhound dog is usually set high and is of medium length. English Coonhounds are increasing in popularity as this breed of dogs is known to be very loving and keen on pleasing its owners.

The English Coonhound is also considered to be one of the most intelligent dog breed amongst hounds and they are also very active and energetic. Although this breed loves a fair amount of exercise , it is also suited for a large apartment with a yard as it is very fond of people  and acts as an excellent guard dog and watchdog to its human family. However while training the English Coonhound one needs to keep in mind that this breed of dogs requires a stern , confident and firm master with very clear human to canine lines of communication. If this is not maintained then the English Coonhound may have behavioural development issues and may also tend to be slightly aggressive and stubborn. As this dog is known for its hunting instinct, one should ensure that they keep this breed on the leash at all times  while walking them in the park as the English Coonhound may suddenly take off after a new scent they may have discovered. Being hunting dogs , the English Coonhound has a strong tendency to tree small animals and if they are not given sufficient amount of mental as well as physical exertion then they tend to get high strung and restless. The life expectancy of the English Coonhound is typically up to 13 years of age. This breed of dogs needs plenty of outdoor exercise and hence this factor needs to be considered while planning on adopting an English Coonhound puppy. Grooming the English Coonhound is known to be fairly easy as they have a hard and short coat that needs to be simply brushed with a firm bristle brush from time to time.
