Bergamasco Shepherd

The Bergamasco Shepherd can be described as a dog breed, which has its origins in the Italian Alps, close to Bergamo.

Originally, there were used mainly as herding dogs; however, the Bergamasco Shepherd dog is now a common choice for a pet too. There are other names that people could use, while referring to the Bergamasco Shepherd, which include the Northern Italian Sheepdog and the Alpine Sheepdog.

Bergamasco Shepherd Dog Breed, Puppies, Size, Price and Lifespan

Almost all the Bergamasco Shepherd dogs are medium in size, with a well proportioned body.

In fact, they are solid and compact dogs that have a powerful build. The most interesting feature of this dog is that it has great body resistance, along with agility, as well as speed of movement. They appear harmonious and have a rustic look.

This could be due to their most unusual feature, which is the abundant “felted coat” normally seen in the healthy dogs belonging to this breed. The front half of the body usually has wavy locks with a harder texture; the coat develops strips that are matted half way from the chest, right till the back of the body and on the legs. The part of the coat that is on the face is less rough in comparison; however, it falls over the eyes, covering them. Contrary to what many people may believe, the coat of the Bergamasco Shepherd does not require too much care.

The Bergamasco Shepherd can be classified as an intelligent dog and due to its determination and courage, they make great guard dogs. Even though they are alert most of the time, they can be fairly quite when they feel that their intervention is not required. Moreover, these dogs, especially the bergamasco puppies do not like to be left on their own, as they usually form a close bond with the families that they belong to. In spite of the fact that these dogs learn new tasks quite easily, they do not like to carry out tasks that are useless. They can compete in a wide variety of activities, which is why the Bergamasco Shepherd is an ideal pet for those people who participate in sports activities and outdoor events with regularity.

The lifespan of a Bergamasco Shepard can be anywhere between 13 and 15 years. The bergamasco price could vary, depending on several factors, such as the age of the dog, the overall health and fitness as well as the popularity of the breeder. However, the average bergamasco price could range from US $ 800 and US $ 2,000.
